How Do I Cancel My Facebook Without Deleting It?

Deleting your Facebook account is a permanent choice. While you can create another Facebook account later, you can never recover all the information from your deleted account. Instead, you will need to begin building your new Facebook profile from scratch. If you want your Facebook profile to disappear but do not want to delete it permanently, opt to deactivate it instead. When you do this, you can later reactivate your account, and your profile will be intact.

Instructions
1
Click "Account" and then "Account Settings" in the upper right corner of any Facebook page. You must be logged in to do this.

2
Click the "Settings" tab if it is not already active, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page. The last option on the list should be "Deactivate Account." Click the "Deactivate" link beside this option

3
Click on the option that best relates to your reason for deactivating your Facebook account. Elaborate on your reason for leaving in the box provided for the purpose if you wish. This page also gives you the option to opt out of email notifications from Facebook and to close any groups of which you are the only manager.

4
Click "Confirm" to finish deactivating your account.
